Work for Me

Help Me Build and Maintain My Home Healthcare Team

I have been managing my own healthcare team since December 2015 with a budget supplied by Medicaid. I feel quite blessed that I have the freedom to find excellent caregivers who are a great fit to our household. It has been a wonderful experience to have flexible caregivers that allow me to create a life with activities outside the home. There tends to be a turnover with caregivers so I’m always keeping my eyes open for new people.

If you are truly interested in making a difference while taking care of simple yet important tasks, please send a picture of yourself, tell me a little bit about yourself and let me know why you're interested in working with me.

Who I Am

I am a 54 year-old big-hearted man. I was injured in a mountain biking accident in August 2012. My spinal cord was severely injured, leaving me as a quadriplegic in a power wheelchair. I am mostly paralysed from the chest down and I have partial use of both my arms.

Even with my limitations, I am still practising the hands-on bodywork that I've been doing for 21 years. I am getting really good results and I am very passionate about rebuilding my practice. I am also very passionate about my spiritual path and about my personal relationships.
I am working very hard to rebuild my life from the consequences of this terrible injury. At this time I need quite a bit of assistance, and am actively seeking heartfelt, compassionate and playful people who would like to help me out and be part of my home healthcare team. I live with my life partner, Beth, who is a rock star! She is a Naropa-trained therapist.

The person applying needs to have a big heart, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude.

What I Need

Three types of work are needed. I will provide most of the training:
  1. Nursing assistance type work - am & pm shifts to help get me out of bed in the morning and into bed in the evening. Some moderate strength is necessary for this work for repositioning me in bed and transferring me with a ceiling lift. Although some previous experience with this kind of work is helpful applicants who are quick learners with lots of details will be considered. Morning shifts are 7:30 AM-10:30 AM.
  2. Homemaker type work - includes, but not limited to: meal prep, housekeeping and errands. Weekday shifts are 12PM-2 PM and 5:30 PM-8 PM and weekend shifts are 12:30 PM-3:30 PM or 4:30 PM.
  3. Overnights - Main duties include before-bed preparations and assistance throughout the night. I often wake up 1 to 4 times each night and need some sort of assistance to help me feel more comfortable. Overnight shifts are 10:15 PM-7:30 AM.

* evening shifts on weekdays are usually a combination of a homemaker shift from 5:30 PM-8 PM and then a nursing assistant shift from 8:30 PM-9:30 PM.

Wages

$14 - $17 per hour, depending on duties.
$56 per night for overnights.
